Today we discussed and worked with the angles of triangles. Through a hands-on activity we learned that if you add up the three angles of any triangle, you will get 1800. Students then practiced finding the missing angle of a triangle and reviewed classifying triangles. Some students worked on an extension about vertical, adjacent and opposite interior and exterior angles (beyond 5th grade curriculum).
Homework tonight: some students need to finish and turn in the classwork page (D34)

We continued our study of systems this week with a focus on Earth systems. On Monday, students watched and took notes on a video on the geosphere and biosphere. Today students watched and took notes on a video on the hydrosphere and atmosphere. Tomorrow we will look at how the spheres interact and impact one another.
Students used IXL (BB1-9) on Monday to practice for their quiz today. We will be moving on to three-dimensional shapes after break. Tomorrow and Thursday we will do a review of measuring and drawing angles with protractors.
Our classes were all over the place this week due to testing. Homerooms met on different days, but we all worked on classifying quadrilaterals for the last half of the week. We talked about using 3 criteria for classifying quadrilaterals (number of pairs of parallel sides, number of congruent sides and the size of opposite angles). We took notes and practiced identifying trapezoids, parallelograms, squares, rectangles and rhombuses. Please ask your children about if a square is a rectangle...it provided some spirited discussion :)
Work turned in this week: page 919-920 (classifying triangles) page 933-934 (classifying quadrilaterals) D40/D37 (extension work for early finishers) COMING UP: review on Monday and QUIZ ON TUESDAY (classify polygons based on number of sides and if it is regular or not regular, classifying triangles and quadrilaterals) Today we took notes to review our work with polygons so far. Students then completed a "check my progress" from the book which will be used to determine if students need more review or are ready to move on to quadrilaterals.
Collected in-class work: pages 921-922 Each homeroom has only one science class in the next couple of days. Students will be finishing up their Super Science from Friday.
