We have started preparations for our annual boat float-off. Students watched a Bill Nye video on Buoyancy and received their clay pieces. Most students have a preliminary clay boat fashioned and will complete the process during class today with some possible test floats. Tomorrow each homeroom will participate in the classroom level float-off where two winners will be determined (based on the most number of pennies held without sinking) and will go on to compete in the grade-level float-off on Monday.
Happy sailing :)

We finished up our volume towers...they look really neat in my room :) and have moved on to a mini-unit on algebra. Wednesday we worked with evaluating expressions for different values and on Thursday we converted written expressions into numerical ones (ex 12 increased by d was 12 + d). Students are given work that they can finish in class due to grades closing on Friday, so don't expect homework today or tomorrow. Most everyone is up-to-date on their spreadsheets!!
If your child still owes work, please have them complete as much as they can for homework, as there is limited time during the day to complete these past assignments. Today students practiced for our Food Web Quiz using Quizlet. The quiz is tomorrow.
Today we played a rousing, follow-up round of "Eat or Be Eaten!"
Today we practiced finding the area of rectangular prisms and cubes. Students did several practice problems in class and some were able to start (and some finish!) their homework for tonight.
Homework: page 959-960 Students worked with organism cards from a given ecosystem (lake or bay) and created food chains that were then placed into a web. The posters from their webs are due on Monday. Many students are finished and have handed them in.
Wednesday: learned about 3-D figures and identifying them using faces, edges and vertices. We wrote the definitions of various shapes in our notes (pages 941-942).
Homework: page 945-946 Thursday: we reviewed from the week on IXL: AA3 BB1 BB2 BB3 BB4 BB9 DD1 DD2 |
