(We had a "finish-up Friday" today. Students worked on a factor/prime factorization packet that was started last week. It is due no later than Wednesday, December 21. (some students copied the divisibility rules notes below to help with finding composite numbers)

Today students reviewed estimation and practiced with adding decimals. We discussed the importance of (and reason for) lining up the decimal point when adding and subtracting. We also talked about why we need to annex (add) zeros to even up the places in each number. Homework tonight: page 339/340.
Students who are working on the yellow sheet homework is enrich lesson 3 and 6. Today students reviewed rounding and applied it to estimating sums and differences of decimal problems. Students turned in homework and worked on pages 309-312 of their math books. Tonight's homework is page 313 and 314 from the math book.
Yellow sheet group checked in with me at the end of class and reviewed questions that had come up yesterday. Tonight's homework for this group is to create 5 math problems sets on their Enrich page 2. We will be finishing up our work on photosynthesis during this week and next week. Today students took a quiz over the process of photosynthesis, read from our textbook and answered questions at the end of the section (page 26). These questions are due by Friday and can be completed during WIN time because the books cannot go home. For the remainder of the week students will work on an Explore Learning "gizmo" about testing different variables that could have an impact on the rate of photosynthesis. Students will have the option of working in pairs. This packet will be due on Monday of next week.
We started working on our chapter on adding and subtracting decimals. Some students participated in group instruction on rounding deciamals to a certain place. We took notes on a place-value line as well as how to round. These should be in student math notebooks. These students have Page 307/308 for homework.
Other students began working on a self-directed practice of the skills from chapter 5 (yellow "go ahead" page), specifically looking at more challenging practice of the same skills being learned by all. These students have Enrich lesson 1 for homework. Students worked on factors and prime numbers. Their packets will be due next week. Next week, students will be grouped based on what mastery they showed on the chapter 5 pretest taken this week. Students will be working on rounding as well as adding and subtracting decimals to the thousandths place.
Students continued work on their projects today and will present during class tomorrow. We will be having a quiz on the process of photosynthesis on Monday. Students can use their notes to study.
Students took a photosynthesis vocabulary quiz today and continued work on their photosynthesis projects. Students will have in-class on Wednesday and Thursday to complete the project with presentations being on Friday. We will also be having a photosynthesis quiz on Friday.
We continued to practice with identifying which property was being used in an equation and identifying which property to use to make solving a problem easier.
