Today we used our work with converting mixed numbers and improper fractions to allow us to multiply mixed numbers. Students will need more practice with this next week, and it will be revisited in 6th grade.

Today we prepped for our food web assessment that will be on Monday. Students completed a paper copy test which we went over then had time to practice with the links below to online practice tests which have similar expectations.
Food Web Online Test 1 Food Web Online Test 2 Food Web Online Test 3 FOOD WEB ASSESSMENT ON MONDAY We continued our work with food chains with a Mystery Science activity. We will keep working tomorrow with practice for our assessment on Monday.
Today we worked on being able to convert between mixed numbers and improper fractions. Students took notes, we did some group practice and then students worked their way through a packet of practice. Some students were able to make it through (or beyond!) the last page which was on multiplying mixed numbers- a preview of tomorrow's work.
Both classes worked so hard with such focus that I have given them the night off from homework tonight. HOMEWORK TONIGHT: ENJOY THE WELL EARNED TIME OFF :) Today we had a double block of math to allow students to finish the unit 6 test. Tomorrow we will do a Unit 7 pretest, which will be our last unit of the year.
Today we had a bit of a shorter class to give more time to math. Students completed a food pyramid of one food chain going from producer at the bottom to top consumers at the apex. Pictures will be added tomorrow of the 3-D pyramids.
We spent part of today's talking about the poor behavior choices that much of the class made while I had a sub yesterday afternoon. We talked about the importance of doing the right thing, being respectful and following the expectations that they know they are supposed to. Each student wrote a note to our sub.
The Arbour's class was shortened by a great discussion that spilled over from science but the Newtons were able to do about 20 minutes of IXL practice on skills relevant to the upcoming test (see list below). Tomorrow I am out. I will be attending a Naturalization Ceremony in my hometown, where my son will be singing with his chorus. I am excited to watch him be a part of such a special ceremony. Students will be taking the practice test on Unit 6, and will get the answers (see below) from the sub. This will serve as one tool to help students prepare for the test next week. IXL W 10, 11, 12 (Line Plots) I 2, 4, 8, 9 (Multiplying Decimals) J 1, 3, 4 (Dividing Decimals) EE14 (Volume) Today students watched a Wild Kratts video on food chains. We then started (Arbour's homeroom finished) creating a food web of the animals in the African safari mentioned in the video.
Today we reviewed our work from yesterday on dividing when you need to add zeros to keep dividing. We then took notes and practiced "shifting the decimal" to divide with decimal divisors.
