We continued to review our work on the scientific method. Students used problems and data to determine a hypothesis and possible experiment for three given scenarios (see below). They then used their new knowledge to unscramble the steps of the scientific method.

We did the mid-chapter progress check during class today. Students have handed this in so that I can plan for what comes next! After they finished, they worked on a decimal enrichment page which combined going from models to decimals (review of classwork) and plotting on a grid (a preview of graphing on an ordered plane).
NO HOMEWORK TONIGHT! We spent most of class watching a BrainPop video on the scientific method, having students write definitions to relevant vocabulary in their own words and then discussing as a class. (Newton homeroom did not get through the discussion). We will continue our work with the BrainPop video tomorrow with a couple more activities and the "quiz".
Today we continued our work with converting decimals and added a side of what expanded form means (see notes). We took our models and have started to use the place names to determine what the decimal will look like.
HOMEWORK TONIGHT: page 33 and 34 some students have redos to do from our first assignment- these are students who scored below 80% on the assignment. They can do this at home or during WIN Today we reviewed the material that we covered on observations (two types and requirements) then we talked about what an inference was and how it was different from an observation. Students completed a worksheet where they had to observe a picture and make an inference about what they observed. We discussed this as a class.
NO HOMEWORK TONIGHT Today we continued our talk about converting from fractions to decimals. Students worked to shade in models and then identified the decimal that was represented.
HOMEWORK TONIGHT: Page 27 and 28 Today we continued our work with observations with a focus on quantitative observations. Students used a hand lens to count as many things on the penny as they could. We then reviewed their observations.
Based on the pretest from last week, we quickly reviewed the difference between place and place value. (See notes) Then we moved into discussing decimal place and place value and started converting fractions (tenths, hundredths and thousandths) into decimals.
HOMEWORK TONIGHT: page 21 and 22 Today we discussed the difference between qualitative and quantitative observations and the quality of observations versus memories.
Today we finished up our diagnostic pieces. We begin curriculum on Monday :)
