Students drew pictures of the Kosher Salt crystals that were left behind from our evaporated salt solutions. We reviewed the terms solute and solvent, then watched a Mr. Edmond's parody song video about solutions. With time that was left, students worked on their "Thinking about Mixtures" questions.
Today we continued our work with long division. We practiced using "equivalent names" to mentally divide numbers and then went on to practice dividing with one-digit divisors or for some, two-digit divisors.
Students were able to self-select which level they wanted to work at today. Our Unit 2 test will be after Thanksgiving Break HOMEWORK TONIGHT: EITHER P31 (SINGLE DIGIT DIVISORS) OR TWO-DIGIT DIVISORS- MUST SHOW ALL WORK Today students continued to work with our three chemicals by adding water to see whether or not the combination created a mixture or a solution. We used screens and paper filters to see if our mixtures could be easily separated. Today we reviewed the work that we did yesterday on how to use different strategies for mental division. We built upon that with some practice with estimating quotients using the extended facts model. We then started working on long (traditional) division. Students worked through problems that we did together on the board.
This is a fun song to help students remember the steps of division! HOMEWORK TONIGHT: EITHER FLYING CARPET (NO REMAINDER) OR OCTAGON REMAINDERS- STUDENTS MUST SHOW WORK I'M RUNNING TO A MEETING AND WILL NOT BE ABLE TO WRITE NOTES UNTIL LATER- CHECK MATH JOURNALS PAGE 60 FOR HELP
HOMEWORK TONIGHT: HOME LINK 2-10 Today we started our work on Mixtures and Solutions by introducing the new course learning targets: 1) I can determine what a substance is based on its properties 2) I can model that matter is made up of particles too small to be seen 3) I can use measurements and graphs to demonstrate that changes in matter does not affect what I have put it (it is conserved) 4) I can conduct an experiment and determine if a chemical change has taken place Students worked in new groups today to make observations about three different substances: gravel, diatomaceous earth, and kosher salt. We then took notes on the definitions of mixture and solution which we will use tomorrow. Students worked to finish up their lab reports and graphs from Flippers experiments. Any student not finished will need to use home or WIN time to complete this.
LAB REPORT MUST BE COMPLETED BY FRIDAY Today we finished up on our whole group work with traditional multiplication. Some students worked to finish up their assessments from last week while the rest of the class worked on a multiplication sheet.
HOMEWORK: FINISH MATH AND COLORING ON DODECAHEDRON BLOSSOMS OR TWIRLING TOP MATH MUST BE DONE ON A SEPARATE PAGE Newton students will be having a guidance lesson on Monday 11/5 during their French time and Arbour students will be having the same lesson on Friday 11/9.
Additionally, students will have a quiz on either Wednesday 11/7 or Thursday 11/8 during their regular French time. There are supports through Google Classroom to help kids study or they have the opportunity to go see Madame Leonard during WIN to get help. |
