Sorry all, I was locked out of the site last night when I got home (holiday overload maybe??) but I wanted to post about what we have been doing. On Monday we did a chapter check in. Students are doing well and I will be meeting with a few small groups/individuals to clarify some concepts. Students also worked independently to review the multiplication properties (almost identical to addition properties from chapter 2) but many got stuck in the application part. As a result, I changed homework from the book page (427-428) to C.6 IXL which was identification of the property.
Tuesday we talked about and practiced using "powers of 10" to multiply decimals mentally. Students were quick to pick-up on the pattern and were able to apply it to not only similar problems but more challenging ones involving decimal powers of 10. Students were assigned IXL I.2 last night or for a challenge 6th grade H.6. Today we reviewed the powers of 10 and used them to see how the properties of multiplication could be used to make mental calculations easier. Homework tonight: page 427-428 (must show work on problems 1 and 2)
