Today we reviewed how to make and use models for multiplying fractions. We had to really hone in on the model representing one whole for each of its dimensions. Students really started to see the connection between the dimensions and the area model. We used our work with the models to highlight the multiplication algorithm (steps to solve the problem). The class was pretty excited with how easy it was to just multiply the numbers. After finishing pages 176 and 177 in their math journals, students worked on IXL skill M15 (or challenge skills from upper grades) on multiplying fractions.
