in LA kids all shared the favorite poem they have written so far this unit- so impressive! Afterwards they wrote some more poems.
In SS they continued taking notes from the IF You Lived books and some students started drafting their persuasive letter. Homework: G1-G5- conjunctions This week the students have been reading If You Lived in Colonial Times on their own and taking notes on the new information they are learning in their reading. I also introduced the New England Colonies postcard project- see product descriptor below. The kids will be working on this both in class and at home. It will be due the Friday after vacation.
Students have been working hard on their poetry books- on Monday I taught them how to write a pantoum poem- each class wrote one together (see Arbour homeroom poem below) and then all of the students wrote their own versions. Yesterday and today the kids worked on various styles of poems in their writers journals.
Homework: IXL G1-G5- Conjunctions We started class today with a little game....I wrote on the board some extended metaphor poems and the kids attempted to figure out what the poems were actually about....some were more challenging than others- check out two below. Afterwards the kids worked on writing their own poems- either attempting to write their own extended metaphor poem, or just writing poems that were in their poetry packet.
Homework: F1-F4- quiz tomorrow; Compare/Contrast Book Talk due right after Feb break Today we read and discussed everyones favorite.....The Salem Witch Trials!
Today we did what is called a 6 room poem- it is a poetry brainstorming technique created by Georgia Heard.
