Students have been finishing up their second book club book- all students should be DONE reading their book by the start of class on Monday. Due to the Festival of Curiosity tomorrow we will not have any class time to read, so students need to finish these books at home.
In Social Studies we did a great reader's theatre that began with the founding of the colonies and ended with the winning of the war....all students were able to play multiple parts in the play. Today we had discussions around the arguments both for and against colonial independence. Homework: Finish Book Club Book, IXL T7-11- quiz tomorrow am before the Festival!

We have spent the past two days talking about and reading sections of The Declaration of Independence. See our class notes below.
So we have not been able to have SS the past two days due to NWEA testing. Yesterday the students tested reading and today math...the good news is that this is the end of state testing for the year! Finally! In LA students have continued to meet in their book clubs- conducting research about their historical events that are taking place in their books and discussing the book. I have been really pleased with how well the kids are doing in their groups.
Homework: T1-T6 Book groups met today in both classes- very impressed with all of the kids! Homework this week: M10-M15
Students handed in their Boston Massacre assignments today- they look great! We have been reading and discussing the Tea Act, Boston Tea Party and the Intolerable Acts this week. To go along with these lessons we also listed to a couple of songs from the "Hamilton" play- today we even did some singing along! Book groups have been continuing to meet 2x a week...some groups are already on their 2nd book! Loving the discussions that are taking place and all the reading that is getting done. Based on an informal survey it appears that the majority of kids are really enjoying the books that they are reading!
Homework: M5-M9 today was the final day for students to work on their Boston Massacre propaganda assignment in class- these are due Thursday. Tomorrow we are moving on in the textbook so the massacre assignment is now homework.
Book Clubs are going great!! Everyone is doing a really great job keeping up with their reading, discussing the books, researching their historical time period, and asking questions. I think overall the majority of kids are really enjoying the books that they are reading.
Everyone did awesome on the quiz today- no retakes needed!! Book talks for the year are officially done! I have two students left to present to me on Monday (they didn't have their books today), but otherwise all grades for book talks have been entered into powerschool. |
