We began learning about the Declaration of Independence today and the importance of this document in our history. We will be taking a much closer look at it tomorrow and figuring out what it actually says.

I started class today with a mini lesson on symbolism. We used the animals associated with the 4 Hogwarts houses: lion, snake, eagle, badger; the kids then thought about those animals and what traits are associated with them either in the wild or in books/movies. The kids came up with:
Homework: Read 30 minutes (no ixl) Groups are working on their symbolism story quilt. They are coming up with 7 symbols to illustrate and caption explaining what that symbol represents in the novels.
Homework: Read! (no ixl this week) We are continuing to learn about the causes of the Revolutionary War. Yesterday (Monday) we discussed how the colonies responded to the Intolerable Acts that the king and Parliament imposed them- having the first Continental Congress- this was the first time that the colonies came together for one common cause- they discussed how they should respond to the king and how they can find a peaceful solution. At the end of class we listened to two songs from "Hamilton" Farmer Refuted and You'll Be Back.
Today I handed out the lyrics to these two "Hamilton" songs and we analyzed the lyrics using what we have learned from our textbook to figure out what they were singing about. We ended class by listening to the songs again and singing along :) Tomorrow we will learn about the first battle of the war! In LA most groups are finishing up their books and preparing for their final discussions (a few have already finished). All books will be done by the end of the week.
In SS we have been working on our propaganda assignment- today was the last in class day to work on this- any student who is not done (the vast majority) will need to finish either during WIN and/or at home for homework- it is due on Monday. Homework: IXL Q5-Q7 due Friday, Boston Massacre Propaganda due Monday Kids are wrapping up their book club books this week- next week they will begin their group project on the two books they read.
In SS the kids continued working on their Boston Massacre propaganda assignment- I have seen some very creative representations so far! Homework: Q5-7- finishing up Greek and Latin roots Students began working on the Boston Massacre propaganda assignment. Yesterday we learned about the Boston Massacre and how the Patriots used this event as propaganda to try and convince colonists that the British soldiers were dangerous and should leave Boston. Today the kids are creating their own propaganda posters, except they are describing the event from the Loyalist's perspective attempting to convince people that it is the Patriot's are dangerous, not the British.
Kids today took their quiz on Greek and Latin roots and then they worked in their book clubs. A few groups chose to meet today to discuss their books, while the rest worked on reading and book club prep.
