In LA kids took their quiz on nouns - students who didn't do well should do some additional practice (most kids struggled with plural nouns). After kids finished their quiz they worked on their theme book talks. In Social Studies we played a jeopardy review game to help us study for Tuesday's test on Native Americans.

We finished chapter 2, Native Americans, today! Below are pictures of all the notes we took during this unit. Please make sure to study via quizlet for the test on Tuesday, 10/31, Sign onto quizlet using your google account.
Today's lesson was about redrafting our stories to bring out their meaning. So perhaps you are writing a story about a time when you went on Thunder Mountain at Disney World....your story begins with the plane ride, then seeing the hotel for the first time, maybe the pool, the next day you go to the magic kingdom and go on a bunch of rides, finally you go to Thunder Mountain and are so scared, but you do it and the ride is awesome. Instead of giving a recap that basically reads like a list, you may decide that the real story is about overcoming your fear of heights....ad you can redraft your story beginning it right with waiting in line for the ride. Students today re-read their drafts from yesterday and then tried to decide what their story was really about....and then they wrote a new version on the story.
Homework: B1-5 nouns, Theme Book Talk today we began bend 2 of our narrative writing unit. This is where we begin to work on the writing itself- taking one piece through the writing process. The kids today choose on if their entries in their writers notebooks and did a flash draft of the story so that we can have a true roughy draft of the story.
Homework: B1-5 unsure, theme book talk Today I had all of the students create a Quizlet account using their Google accounts so that they never have too worry about remembering a username and password. Once they got on Quizlet they my class where I have created a set of flashcards for them to use to study for their upcoming native American test next Thursday. We will be studying in class, but kids need to be practicing the flashcards at home as well- make sure they start with the term first not definition since many of the cards are passed as questions.
After we got Quizlet figured out we discussed the Estern woodland natives and how they used and managed the land for survival. See notes below. Homework: study for test on 10/31 using Quizlet.Com Today we read about the Aztec and Anasazi tribes, focusing on how they interacted with their environment. Yesterday I assigned the Native American Project, which is due on Monday, November 20 (the date on the product descriptor says, Monday, November 22 but that is a typo- I had students fix on their copies). Please see the project choices below.
Students took their ixl quiz today- please check the portal to see how your child did and if they need to do any additional studying this weekend for the retake early next week.
Homework: Work on Theme Book Talk which is due in 3 weeks! Today we talked more about different strategies for generating ideas for personal narratives. I also made up an anchor chart this afternoon to help kids understand the difference between theme and main idea- kids can use this to help them on their ixl homework.
Homework: R1-R5 Today we watched my all-time favorite historical movie: "America Before Columbus". The movie is very long so we will be watching pieces of it over the next few months and then talking as we go about the various things we learn. |
