At the start of class today I got all of the students set up on google classroom and enrolled in my two classes- this will make it easier for them to turn in writing assignments and for me to share google docs with them. After everyone got in the classes and shared their explorer essays with me- we began studying for our test on Friday. A few students mentioned that they had a hard time logging in at home- this is because they logged in incorrectly. When they go to quizlet and log in- they want to select Log in with Google- they should NOT type in the username or password- see image below.
A student in my homeroom graciously sent me the quizlet he created so students who are struggling making their cards can use this to study: https://quizlet.com/_4czh30 Homework- Study for Friday's test!

Today we read another chapter in Where the Red Fern Grows and then watched 2 great poems by Taylor Mali around the use of language and speaking with conviction. After the videos the kids worked on writing their poems. Homework: P1-P3- Organizing Writing Today the students finished making their quizlets (it appears they did not take my advice and make them last night for homework). As they finished making their flashcards they were able to begin studying.
Homework: Finish Quizlet by tomorrow! STUDY for Friday's test! Yesterday the Arbour homeroom voted on our next read aloud book and they chose Where the Red Fern Grows, one of my all time favorites! We started reading the book today in class. Afterwards, the kids watched a YouTube video about about prime numbers- I would love to see some of the kids attempt to write their own funny love poem about something academic! Check out the poem below (it is the first poem that he performs...we did not watch all 14 minutes of the video- just the one poem!) Homework: P1-P3, Organizing Writing; Compare/Contrast Book Talk Today we finished up our chapter on the early colonies. Students will be taking a test this Friday on the chapter. I provided them with a study guide which they should use to create a quizlet to study from. We will be using the next 3 days in class to study- so ideally students should have their quizlet created (using our notes from class- see below) by the start of class tomorrow.

New France Example of reasons people leave their homeland today to settle in USA What motivates a country/group to start a new colony in America? Pilgrims Puritans Last Thursday we started our poetry unit. We kicked off this unit by watching 2 videos of spoken poetry and then discussed each of the poems attempting to dissect their meaning. Today we watched a performance that Lin-Manuel Miranda did at the White House back in 2009 and then we discussed how poems can be written about anything- you can take a topic we learn in class and turn it into a poem! Afterwards, the class started working on writing their own poems. Homework: P1-P3, Organizing Writing and Compare/Contrast Book Talk today with the early release class was a little shorter. We began with reading aloud a chapter in our book and then I assigned the next book talk- compare/contrast. All book talks are due the last week in Feb/1st week in March and the second week in March.
Homework: A7-A12, compare/contrast book talk we read about the Puritans today- and then students worked in groups to create a Venn diagram on the Pilgrims and Puritans. we spent the bulk of class reviewing this weeks ixl skills- below are notes Mrs Arbour’s class took to help them complete the skills- students should use these notes to help them while doing their homework.
homework: A7-A12 Students had NWEA reading testing today during periods 3 and 4, so we only had social studies class. We will be continuing testing tomorrow with math NWEA's. In Social Studies today we had a few minutes of read aloud and then finished reading and taking notes on the Pilgrims. Wednesday (no SS tomorrow due to testing) we will begin reading and note taking about the Puritans.
