Today the students received the product descriptor for writing their movie review of The Storks. The product descriptor is broken out into 5 sections, so I had the kids cut up the paper into the sections and then glue each section to the top of a page in their writers journal. This will help keep them organized as they begin writing their drafts. We also began looking at and reading sample movie reviews taken from Rotten Tomatoes.
Homework: J6-J10- quiz tomorrow! Book Talk Newton homeroom finished watching The Storks today, while the Arbour class listened to the end of Where the Red Fern Grows (Newton hr heard the end yesterday). Arbours are almost done with the movie and will finish tomorrow at the start of class before starting to write our movie reviews.
Homework: J6-10, Book Talk in LA today we read from Where the Red Fern Grows and then watched about 20 minutes of Storks. Homework: J6-J10
In social studies we continued reading about the Southern Colonies- focusing on the House of Burgesses and how it was the first representative government in the colonies, Bacon’s Rebellion and the fallout and the founding of the colony of Maryland. I will post pictures of our notes tomorrow- I forgot to take pics before I left school today. We started a new unit in LA this week. We are watching the movie Storks and then going to be either writing a 6 paragraph essay analyzing the characters and theme of the movie, or doing some sort of creative project that would also analyze characters and theme.
today I handed back the postcard project that kids did in ss and before kids put them in their portfolio we went over the requirements from their product descriptor and why kids may have lost points in each category. Any redos are due this Friday- all grades below 80 are mandatory redo and any grades in the 80s are optional redo.
Afterwards I assigned the new book talk- kids each got their own due date- books talks are all due either the last week in April or first week in May. We finished her class by reading Where the Red Fern Grows. Homework: J1-J5 and book talk Personal poetry books are due first thing Monday morning- no late books accepted- students were reminded throughout the day (and at dismissal) to make sure they bring home everything they need in order to finish up their books.
