Today we continued both our regional small map work and large map work in small groups. Additional time was spent using Lizardpoint.com to continue state and capital memory acquisition. Tips were provided as to how to customize this work...focusing on separate regions to work "parts-to-the whole"/ mastery of lesser information and making the quizzes more challenging. The final assessment on all 50 could possibly be late next week depending on student readiness.

Today students took their weekly IXL Quiz (Main Idea vs. Supporting Detail & Identifying Sensory Details) to begin class. We followed that by completing our first activity using the "SWBST" story summarization strategy. We then began reading our next activity with this strategy by reading the short story "Attack of the Leftovers."
Today we reviewed further the key aspects of Latitude & Longitude before taking the assessment.
We continue to practice further on last week's skill of identifying the author's POV. We also began a walk through of how to use a summarizing strategy ("Somebody-Wanted-But-So-Then") to help students with this important aspect of their book talks. We did this by referring back to our story Weslandia that we used for character trait analysis. We will continue working on this strategy well into next week. Tomorrow they will take their weekly quiz on IXL skills. (Main Idea & supporting details and identifying sensory details.)
Again, the schedule has been altered but all classes should be ready to review "More Practice 1-10/ Using Latitude and Longitude" tomorrow and take a subsequent quiz on using that skill. We also continued our study of the Mid-West states bringing our total covered to 35 of the 50 US states. The assessment on all 50 states and capitals will most likely be late next week.
Only the Casey/Newton HR met today. Mrs. Arbour's HR went to the library to here a gust author speak to his craft. The IXL assignment for the week is: A-1, D-1 and D-2 . The quiz on these skills is Friday, as usual.
Today we took a break from our geography unit focus on the regions, states and capitals of the US and shifted gears to the concept of latitude and longitude. Using the site Brain Pop, students watched an informational video, took a practice quiz which we discussed and added additional notes and clarification on and then practiced applying these skills to find the 7 locations of 7 countries using the coordinates. We will review this activity "Do This!" on Monday and do another practice activity before taking a quiz on this standard next week. There is no homework this weekend.
Today we reviewed the 3 POV examples from the movie script for Toy Story before taking the weekly quiz on this weeks IXL skills. There is no weekend assignment.
