We finished our work on the 14 states Southern region packet and transferred state names and colors to larger student maps. Next, we began our study of the 12 states in the midwest region. We ended class with students using their own i-pads to access lizardpoint.com to practice/quiz and assess their knowledge of the 50 US states.

We continued applying our guide notes and reading skills to analyze 6 more additional texts for identifying POV. This and student practice on previously stated IXL skill practice homework assignments (B-1, B-2 & E-1) should have them ready for tomorrow's quiz.
We began class in a Think-Pair-Share activity finishing our analysis of 5 different texts and determining POV....stressing the process detailed on our note collection yesterday. More practice followed with 3 additional examples ("Point of View- Who is Telling the Story sheet") which we will discuss and reach consensus on tomorrow. Students should be continuing their IXL practice on B-1, B-2 and E-1 to further prepare for the quiz on Friday
Today in SS we began class by reviewing the 6 New England states and capitals, the 3 Middle Atlantic states and capitals and the 14 Southern region states and capitals using the Sheppard software website US geography review game. We then finished our discussion on the Southern states packet and transferred these states and capitals on to the large student maps. We continue to talk about memory tips as to how to both remember and locate this states as we work towards our goal of all 50!
We discussed our answers to pg 5 & 6 on the Southern State region. Students continued to work further on this region working on p. 7 questions 6-11. No homework.
Today in LA we began with a pre-assessment on Point of View. This was followed by a student note-taking session of the important aspects of POV...what it is, how to determine what kind it is, etc. Then we discussed the pre assessment answers in light of this new information. We ended class with students beginning to analyze 5 different different texts and using their notes to practice identifying POV and explaining why they know the choice is right. The homework continues to be IXL skill sets B-1, B-2 and E-1.
Students did not have either SS or LA classes today as they went to Mrs. Hanson and Mrs. Royal for guidance lessons. The LA, IXL assignment for week 2 (Level G) is: E-1, B-1 and B-2. The quiz for these skills will be on Friday
Today we began our group work on the 14 states comprising the Southern region. This will continue on Monday when we return. We closed the week by listening to world news/current events on CNN-10, the student news channel. There is no homework.
Today in LA we worked in groups on developing evidence to support our character trait cited from our read aloud "Weslandia." Students also took their first IXL quiz on the skills they had practiced during the week. Their is no homework but the daily encouragement to be reading 20 minutes is ongoing.
Today our class began with a read aloud of the book Weslandia. Students then brainstormed various character traits of the main character and began supporting the trait with 2 forms of evidence from the book. This activity not only reinforces the current skill work in IXL but also parallels work to be done while completing the graphic organizer for individual book talks/conferences. We will discuss such evidence tomorrow in class. I also passed back the exit ticket/formative assessment I gave yesterday as a mid week check point on their IXL work and reminded students who had yet to go on the site and practice. The quiz for the IXL skills is tomorrow.
