Today we wrote our reason statements for our persuasive essays- focusing just on body paragraph 1
Homework: WW 1-3 Quiz Friday on the early battles of the war and the Declaration of Independence. https://quizlet.com/_3hp7cl
Today we watched a brainpop on the Declaration of Independence and then spent the remainder of class reading and discussing what led to the writing of the Declaration and what the document stated.
Today I introduced our last major writing assignment of the year! We are writing persuasive essays- students are either a Patriot or a Loyalist. I provided everyone with a graphic organizer that included the topics to be discussed in each body paragraph. Today the kids wrote their topic sentences for each paragraph- tomorrow we will be writing our reason statements.
Homework: IXL: WW1-3 Alphabetical Order We are all getting very excited for our field trip on Thursday to Boston! Mrs. Arbour and I wanted to share some information to hopefully clear up any questions that kids/parents may have.
Departure/Return: We will be leaving the school at 8:00. Students need to be here on-time in order to make the bus. We cannot wait for students who arrive late. We will be returning at 5:00 pm. Please plan to be at the school to pick your child up by 4:45. You may meet your child in the bus circle in front of Pond Cove. Weather/Clothing: It is supposed to be 91 degrees in Boston - students should dress in breathable clothes and supportive sneakers (NO FLIP FLOPS!). Make sure your child applies sunscreen in the morning and brings a bottle with them in their backpacks to reapply throughout the day. Food/Water: Students should pack a lunch and snacks (if you would like the school to pack a lunch for your child please let me know asap). They may have time to buy a treat during lunch or in the afternoon, but no guarantees, so please make sure your child has plenty to eat and drink. Due to the heat and the amount of walking we will be doing it is important that your child brings with them lots of water so they can stay hydrated throughout the day. Money: Students may bring with them $ to purchase a souvenir or treat, but please do not send them with more than $20. Electronics: Students may bring electronics with them on the bus. We request that if they bring a phone/itouch to use to take pictures that they put the device in airplane mode when we get off the bus so that they can focus on the tour and historical sites. Students will be solely responsible for their devices. In Social Studies the kids worked in their groups to research stops along the Freedom Trail- tomorrow in class the groups will be presenting their research teaching the rest of the class about their stops.
In LA students either read quietly or worked on their writing while I listened to student book talks. Please note, Mrs Arbour and I have updated the powerschool portal putting 0s in as placeholders for any missing assignments that kids have. We printed off copies of their report card as it stands today along with individual subjects with the failing or missing assignments highlighted. Today we began class by talking about our field trip on Thursday to Boston- we are all very excited! After this, we reenacted the Battle of Bunker Hill and talked about how this battle was both a win and a loss for the Patriots. We also began discussing the strengths of both the British and the Patriot armies. Tomorrow the students will be prepping for the field trip by researching the various stops on the Freedom Trail that we will be seeing.
