We finished class by reading the final part of lesson 2 ( The Moslem/Moors influence in Europe and the Renaissance period). We finsihed by working in partners on the end of chapter exit ticket questions.
Today in LA we continued our review and practice with possessive nouns both singular and plural. We moved to a writing activity in which we tried to apply the show don't tell story to a Small Moment and enhance the story with descriptive writing. IXL quiz is Friday.
Today we discussed our exit ticket from last week's study of the Vikings and Africa's Trans Saharan trade. We also began our reading and Cornell note collection on lesson 2 involving the wonders of China as witnessed by Marco Polo and how it led to the spread of trade and ideas-The Silk Road.
This week's IXL skills, involving possessives are: BB-5, 6, 7, 8, & 9. The quiz is Friday. We also continued our class read aloud, practiced an activity involving forming singular noun possessives and discussed our writing strategy "Show Don't Tell" as it applied to the reading excerpt "Weird Watson's."
Today we focused our effort on preparing for tomorrow's IXL quiz. First we reviewed a sheet on identifying common and proper nouns. Additional time was dedicated to students using their laptops to complete the IXL skills or work on their book talk templates which are also due tomorrow.
Today we finished a review, discussion and note collection on Ch.3 Lesson 1, learning about the peoples and Trans Saharan Trade of West Africa. The Native American Culture Cornell Notes project is due tomorrow.
We began our class today with a grammar practice activity based on the week's IXL skills...(nouns, plural noun endings & spelling, identifying common and proper nouns). We then read aloud from our class novel. We finished class with a 15 minute writing activity based on Monday's brainstorming of strong feelings and how to show that in your writing.
Today in SS we started Ch.3 "The Worlds of Africa, Asia & Europe"/Lesson 1-"Trading Across Oceans and Continents." We read, discussed and used Cornell notes (just introduced in the Native American Culture lesson in previous chapter) as the vehicle to collect information regarding the arrival of the Vikings in North America 500 years before Columbus and Cabot. Students again will be allowed to use their notes on parts of the final assessment. Tomorrow we will learn about the West African kingdoms that profited from control of the Trans Saharan trade system. The key focus is on the spread of ideas, not just the exchange of goods/products. Native American notes on selected cultures are due no later than Friday.
Today was the 3rd full class activity devoted to using Cornell note templates to record important information on specific categories pertaining to their Native American Culture. Students have begun transferring their rough draft bulleted information to the larger 11 x 17 final copy. This assignment is due Wednesday.
