Today I passed back the show not tell practice that the students completed last week. Students who scored a 3 or higher worked on their narrative stories- identifying telling sentences in their writing and turning them into showing sentences or paragraphs. The rest of the class received additional instruction and practice around this skill. We used the telling sentence, "I was happy." and then worked our way through each of the individual strategies- taking them one at a time and practicing using that one strategy to show that they were happy. We will continue this work on Wednesday.
Homework: Read - identifying signposts and doing required thinking

Today after read aloud we had a discussion about the struggles that the main character is facing, including racism. Following our discussion the kids worked on finishing up typing their narrative stories and then if they finished their typing they took out their books and read. The vast majority of the students worked on their writing.
