Today I explained that this week they were catching a break with their IXL...they still had to do the IXL skills (see below), but we would not have a quiz on Thursday, instead students would get credit for just having it done (10/10 if they get to an 80).
We read Harry Potter today for the whole period- focusing on finding different types of figurative language (but no similes- those are too easy at this point!) and identifying different parts of the plot. I also explained that in most books that are multiple conflics, but you want to focus on the main conflict that goes throughout the entire book...same goes for main characters- books, like Harry Potter, have a ton of characters- but you want to focus your character descriptions on the characters who are important throughout the entire book and central to the plot....so in this case: Harry, Ron, and Hermione would be the main characters. I am hoping to finish the book before Thursday afternoon. Homework: IXL: N1-3 (Perfect Verb Tense) and O1-2 (Modal Auxillaries), Figurative Language Book Talk (see calendar on Important Notices page to see when the individual due dates are)
