Today in LA the students all sorted themselves into their Hogwarts house on the Potter ore website. We are going to be using these houses for a few different things in class, including doing a persuasive writing about why their house is the best.
homework: IXL AA 7-9, book talk In Social Studies we did an activity around the Salem Witch Trials. I told the kids I would let them know if they were a townsperson or a witch. Once everyone was given their role I told them to form the largest group possible, without a witch in it. The largest group with no witches would earn candy...any group with a witch could not get any. After it was revealed that no one in fact was a witch. We had a discussion about how quickly they lost trust in each other and how it felt to be accused of being a witch. Many kids had been accused, and almost every student accused someone of being a witch. This lead us into the Salem Witch Trials - how innocent people were being accused and no one trusted anyone! It was a fun activity that hopefully got them thinking and gave them some insight into that event!
