Language Arts- Total work time 50-60 minutes (including the 30 minutes of reading)
1. Read for 30 minutes- if you do not have a book to read, please find one- let me know if you need recommendations. If you have your book club book at home you are welcome to continue reading that. If you don’t have your book club book, but you want to keep reading it, please see if you are able to get your own copy- I am not allowed in the school right now so I do not have access to them (plus I don’t have enough copies for everyone to have their own). 2. Complete your reading log (10 min) (you must create one in google docs and share it with me). Your daily reading log must include: Today’s Date Title of the book Pages read A summary of those pages (you can just write a SWBST) 3. Write for at least 10 minutes in “My Corona Journal” that I shared with you last week in google docs. Social Studies: Total Work Time about 30 minutes 1. Watch the BrainPop on Salem Witch Trials username: capeelizabeth password: school 2. Take the graded quiz- send Ms Newton a screenshot of your score 3. Read “Quirky Stuff” to learn more about how they “tested” if someone was a witch 4. Read “Unsolved Mysteries” 5. After reading, send me a video either via email or post on flip grid, which reason you believe started the Witch Trials and why. Note: If you have worked for 30 minutes on the Social Studies material and you have not yet finished, please send me an email to let me know how long you worked and what you weren't able to get done.

I would like kids to all start keeping an online journal. I am going to create a google doc for each student and share it with you. I would like you to write to me every day (Monday-Friday). You can write about anything:
Read! You should aim to read for 30 minutes each day!

See the handout below.
In Language Arts the students all had their book club meetings. I am getting some FABULOUS feedback from the facilitators about the insights and discussions that the kids are having about their books! I will be out tomorrow, but the students will be using LA class time to work on their book club work for next week and SS time to revise and edit their informative writing piece. In Social Studies students worked on their information writing about Colonial Times. They used the outlines they completed yesterday along with the topic sentence they generated to draft their paragraphs. Tomorrow I plan to do a quick mini lesson on introductions and conclusions.
In LA the kids used today's class as their final prep day for tomorrows book club meetings. In LA today the students worked on their book club meeting prep. During SS I gave a mini lesson on writing topic sentences. Afterwards the students worked on filling out a graphic organizer to outline their paragraph.
I started class today by providing the students with the product descriptor and rubric for the information writing piece they will be doing on Colonial New England. As we went over the rubric I pointed out what students need to do in order to get a 3 (meeting 5th grade standards) and what they need to do in order to push themselves in their writing and go above and beyond to get a score of a 4. We will be working on these in class only and students are expected to be finished with this by Friday.
